In the studio with Notman
Marisa Portolese, a Montreal artist, presents an exhibition of portraits inspired by her research in the Notman collection. For several years, Portolese has been doing portraits of women from a feminist perspective. As part of the artist-in-residence program, Portolese wanted to explore the studio's tradition, its sets, and more specifically the backdrops and accessories used by Notman to highlight women's subjects.
The exhibition consists of large format color photographs made in natural light with an analog camera.
