Montreal, August 1st , 2008- 2008 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Puccini, and one year of the passing of the great Luciano Pavarotti, both of which will be commemorated during the presentation of La Bohème as part of the activities of Montreal’s Italian Week.  The opera takes the stage on Sunday August17, 2008 in Little Italy in what is looking to be another sensational performance.

 
La Bohème, considered amongst the most popular operas, is a heart breaking love story ending in tragedy, that will leave spectators in emotional peril as they follow the story of the poet Rodolfo and his ill neighbour Mimi. Mimi’s struggle to survive and Rodolfo’s desperate love evoke nothing but tears, sorrow and desperation. 

 
The cast’s undeniable talent will do nothing short of draw the crowd into the dramatic ambiance of this brilliant piece conducted by Maestro Rafaelle Ponti.  Alice Quintavalla, soprano, Andrea Cesare Coronella, tenor, and Alessandro Luongo, baritone, experienced performers from the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago,Tuscany, Italy, play Mimi, Rodolfo and Marcello, respectively. Musetta will be played by Gloria Polcari, soprano from Il Canto.

 
Entrance to the opera is free of charge and will take place on the Loto-Québec stage at the corner of Saint-Zotique and Saint-Laurent.
